The Open Window Receives Excellence Award for the Second Year

Once again, The Open Window, Banks Middle School's student produced literary magazine,  has been awarded an Excellent from the National Council of Teachers of English Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines.   

In 2009, 425 schools submitted entries; of those, 78 magazines were nominated for highest award with 26 selected to receive highest award, 81 Superior, 207 Excellent, and 48 Above Average. Magazines scoring 70 or fewer points are not included in the list.     The student literary magazine program is open to all senior high, junior high, and middle schools throughout the United States, Canada, Virgin Islands, and to American schools abroad. Only one entry may be submitted per school.

Banks Middle was the only middle school in the state of Alabama to win an award!

You can be a part of the 2010 Open Window!  Students who are interested in submitting original poems, short stories, or art work should see Miss Gay for more information.  Any 6-8th grade student at Banks Middle School can make a submission.  Make your submission today!
